Southeast Alabama Medical Center Emergency Department

Location: Dothan, Alabama
Client: Houston County Hospital Board

The Medical Center wanted to provide a larger modern emergency department to limit the amount of time patients wait to see a physician. The facility is a steel frame of Type Two construction with brick and block exterior walls for the first eight feet. The remaining portion of exterior is EIFS on metal studs; interior partitions are metal studs and gypsum, finishes are paint; vinyl wall covering, and seamless vinyl flooring in critical areas; and acoustical tile ceilings. The new addition was designed to complement the character of the existing facility.

The new emergency center is a 27,000 sq ft. facility. The center includes the following: waiting area for 70 people, a family/prayer room, snack and vending area, thirty-two (32) patient beds, two (2) X-Ray units and CT scan major trauma and resuscitation room, orthopedic treatment room, eight (8) bed short stay diagnostic treatment unit, exam room for victims of sexual assault, minor surgery and procedure room, eye exam, ear nose and throat room, two (2) isolation rooms, a separate ambulance and walk in entrance.
